X’mas Pop Up Cards

Ho ho ho, how’s your December coming along? Ours are busy and busy. Had been keeping the kids busy with the advent calendar activities when mommy is back home. At the same time, the small little ‘presents’ (Lego theme this year), are keeping them real busy too in the afternoon too!

Had gotten little milkie to start writing letters, the-seem-to-be-forgotten-method-of-communicating, to a few of her friends since she won’t be seeing them so often when she goes Primary school next year. With Christmas approaching, it’s time to make something and send it through snail mail!

Milkandmilo_140106-1209x1209

So there we go, doing some simple pop-up cards using a piece of paper. I cut and paste while she decorated the cards with my newly bought silver and gold Sharpies.

Milkandmilo_140135-1209x1209

It’s interesting at times to see how creative a kid can go (or not go). Comparing the two siblings, little milo don’t seem to show any sort of creativity at all. *LOL*

Milkandmilo_140148-1209x1209

Unlike little milkie who always amazes me with her drawings + story (tho’ some are really, totally illogical).

Milkandmilo_140215-1078x1078

Here’s the first one! A few more to go. Wonder if her little brother wants to do too. Hmm…

The Three Elves

‘Tis the season to be jolly! It’s finally December! Our favourite month of the year, and we hope it’s yours too.

As always, since a few years back, I got inspired by some online blogs and decided to create the advent calendar for the kids, in the form of a storyline. This year is no difference, and so here comes, THE THREE ELVES!

But first, we have got to make it! Here’s what we use: yarns, wooden balls, small beads, felt cloth, cotton wool, craft glue and last but not least, the tools required to make pom pom.

Milkandmilo_234056-1209x1209

This activity is definitely too difficult for a 3 years old, so after attempting to go round the pom pom tool for a few minutes, I ended up helping little milo for the rest of it.

Milkandmilo_234132-1209x1209

Even little milkie took a while…

Milkandmilo_234456-1209x1209

But eventually she got the hang of it, and finished her pom pom ball.

Milkandmilo_234517-1209x1209

There we go, all 3 of them. One for the mommy, one for little milkie, and one for little milo. Can you guess who choses which colour?

Milkandmilo_234630-1228x1228

What’s the next step? Using the wooden bead, put some glue on it and stick it to the pom pom ball. Press and hold for a while, then let it dry so that it doesn’t drop off.

Milkandmilo_234656-1110x1110

Then stick the nose to the wooden ball (a.k.a. the head) and again, let it dry for a while.

Milkandmilo_234710-1209x1209

Gently stick some cotton wool (the beard) and draw the eyes.

Milkandmilo_234726-1043x1043

Cut out a shape of a quadrant and rolled it to a cone shape (the hat). Stick it and let dry.

Milkandmilo_234755-1060x1060

Lastly, stick the hat to the head!

Look out for some other activities that we will be doing soon!

6 Reasons Why You Should Not Let a Pre-schooler Watch Scary Movie

It was a normal scary Saturday night. The mother and father happily prepared themselves for the “Train to Busan” (Gong Yoo!!!!) that will be shown on TV soon. Little milkie insisted that she wanted to watch too and so we reluctantly agreed. Bad, bad, very BAD decision.

Here’s 6 reasons why you should NOT let a pre-schooler watch a scary movie…

1. They Think that it is Real

I’m not saying that it’s not and that it won’t ever happened (in the future) but I know that at this point there isn’t any that I know or heard of. But to them, it’s real! She’s even asking what happened if there’s a zombie now wanting to bite her! And I had to spend the time to explain to her (regardless of whether she understood or not), on the possibility of a zombie becoming real.

2. Your Bed will be Invaded

Two is comfortable. Three is just nice. Four is definitely crowded. Little milo usually only invaded our bed early in the morning. But now, I’ve got little milkie sleeping on our bed throughout because she is scare… really scare… (and we don’t really want her to wake up alone crying).

3. Nightmares are Bad

Yup, I agreed, nightmares are bad but getting a shock and waking up in the middle of the night a few times, isn’t any better. And not to mention for consecutive nights. *a panda-looking mommy staring at the screen*

4. Sudden Sobs

When the night or darkness comes, suddenly so does the sobs, out of nowhere! And you will be wondering WHY? O.o? Only to realise that it’s due to the scary movie a feeeeew days ago (soon to be a week). What’s worse? She puked after the cries, and you have to clean up the mess…

5. Stick to You Like Glue

When the night comes, everywhere you go, she goes. Everywhere she wants to go, you go. So that there won’t be any zombie jumping out of nowhere to attack her!

6. Making a Dream Catcher

This was definitely unexpected when she complained that she got nightmares in our house instead of her grandma’s house because I never hang any dream catcher at the window. Of course to calm her down, I agreed to make one… and so… let’s be quick with this, and go to bed.

milkandmilo_1540391935668

… and then you dig up your photos, and suddenly missed those decorations you made for Halloween previously…

Canopi Glamping @ Bintan

Got back home one evening, and started looking through the photos in my mobile. What have we done since the start of this year? And then I caught a glimpse on some of the photos that we took at a short trip to Canopi Glamping @ Bintan a few months back. So it’s time for some throwbacks!

There we go, on a trip with my college friends and their family! The idea of us (my college friends and I) going on our first trip together after knowing each other for 20 years is enough to excite me. What’s even greater? Their children are going too! I’ve always like the idea of a big group of people going on a trip, where there’s a mixture of children and adults. It definitely is more fun than just a family of 4, at least for me.

Anyway, it didn’t take that long for the children to start to mix together. It’s a pity that little milo couldn’t join us as he had a fever on the very morning that we left for the trip.

milkandmilo_212731-1209x1209

It’s the first time that little milkie took the ferry and so she was a little excited. Look! Her hair was still long then! And I somewhat misses her long hair where I can tie her hair up differently. Let’s hope she decides to keep her hair long again! *fingers crossed*

milkandmilo_212927-1224x1224

Since it will take about 45 minutes at least for the ferry to reach Bintan, I brought some notebook and crayons for her to “kill” some time.

milkandmilo_213321-1209x1209

And here’s her masterpiece! Walking in the rain! *LOL*

milkandmilo_213339-1209x1209

This time round, under the advice from the organiser, we took the premium ticket and WOW. When we reached the ferry terminal at Bintan, I realised that we actually have the priority to alight from the ferry first! It somewhat felt nice in the sense that we don’t have to squeeze that badly but at the same time it feels weird. And it sure reminded me of all those movies where when there’s some crisis or in the olden days, the rich will get to move first (Was it Titanic?). Okay, wait, I am not rich (monetary-wise), definitely *Lol*.

Anyhow, we got out of the checkpoint quite fast and a bus came to fetch us shortly. When we reached, I was like WOW (again).

milkandmilo_213626-1209x1209

An extremely big pool of water right in front of us, which I was rather excited to examine if its real or man-made.

milkandmilo_213639-1209x1209

The place was beautiful, with rows of tent-like rooms on one whole stretch along the pool.

20180616_213706

This little girl wanted to go and swim immediately (and of course that’s not really possible).

milkandmilo_213804-1209x1209

One of her buddies for the next few days. A very cool sister!

milkandmilo_213830-1209x1209

There wasn’t much things to eat at that place. In fact, that seems like one of the 2 restaurants at that area.

20180616_220125-900x900

And here’s the gang and their families! This usual group of friends are bigger than this. A tad sad that a few others couldn’t make it for this trip. Otherwise I think it will be even more fun!

milkandmilo_213842-1209x1209

Their fish and chips which wasn’t too bad. Too slow to take the photos of other food as I was simply famished. The body needs the food more than the phone!

milkandmilo_213858-1209x1209

So that’s the door of where we stay. Standalone “tent”. I still remember that I told my colleague that I wouldn’t want to go for such glamping ‘cos that seems to defeat the purpose of camping. But here I am… LOL.

milkandmilo_214016-1209x1209

See! Does this look like camping to you?

milkandmilo_214036-1209x1209

Not the least bit for me. But anyhow, the room was quite spacious! There’s the bed, as well as this sofa where there’s a pull-out bed!

milkandmilo_214047-1209x1209

Another interesting thing is their bathroom. It’s open-air! But don’t worry, there’s still a wall. It’s just that the green area that you see in the photos, is opened (no roof top).

milkandmilo_214116-1209x1209

Yeah, you’ve got it! An outdoor personal bathroom!

milkandmilo_214251-1209x1209

Without further ado, we dropped the luggage and OFF we go! (Or else little milkie will “nag die me”)

20180616_220142-900x900

Here’s the pool. After close examine, it sure is a fake one though we kept debating if the water is sea water or something else? Why? It’s EXTREMELY salty. The floor is fake, just FYI. Just some metal or not-too-sure what is the material. But it had been made to have similar texture as the sand. Yes, it’s quite rough so got to be a little careful not to get scratches from it.

But otherwise, the pool has A LOT of fun items which you can rent at a price (they have a price list).

milkandmilo_214314

We swam for a while before we washed up to take our dinner.

20180616_214334-1209x1209

It was an outdoor barbeque buffet dinner.

20180616_214343-1209x1209

What can you expect? BBQ food. For that price, maybe it’s not that worth it. But when there’s hardly much to eat there, you simply have to try at least once to see if you can go back again.

20180616_220201-900x900

The buddies jr. Looks so cute together! It’ll be so interesting if we have those annual trip together!

20180616_214500-1209x1209

We went to the other side of the long stretch of lagoon the next day. Thankfully it was cloudy when we went.

20180616_214512

We took the bumboat and had such a fun time chasing and shooting each other with the water guns. If only their water guns work. *Wishing it was super-soaker (if it still exists)*

20180616_220445-895x895

Had lunch at the other restaurants. This was the same place where we had our free breakfast, though it was available at the other restaurant too.

20180616_214533-1209x1209

There’s a small playground just outside here, with some swings and slide.

20180616_214627-1209x1209

Love this fish. Food wasn’t too bad.

20180616_215802-1224x1224

Taking a selfie together while going back to the other side of the lagoon. That is the troublesome part. But on the other hand, we’ve got transport!

20180616_220517-900x900

And look what we found! Definitely some place where the kids can spend their time when the weather ain’t good.

20180616_215921-1209x1209

And here’s one of the outdoor activities for the kids. Am very thankful that a friend’s wife took little milkie out to play all these!

20180616_220009-1209x1209

Here’s the look of a very happy kid after 3 days of fun!

20180616_220034-1134x1134

We did go for a firefly tour but it was too dark and so I couldn’t get any pictures with my Note 8.

Well, definitely a nice place to sit back and relax, especially at night when all the children are asleep. Wouldn’t mind going there again but for now, we are so looking forward to our holiday next week! Shall update again! ^^

It’s Pokemon Again!

Pokemons are still here! Little milkie has requested for a Pokemon theme (again -.-”’) for her mini birthday celebration at home with the big family two weeks ago. Challenging? Definitely for the mommy as she cracked her head trying to think what else she can do. I seriously hope that she won’t request for it again the next year.

It’s weird though that little milkie insisted to just celebrate it at home instead of with her friends, and told me that she is too shy to want to be the center of attention in school. Not sure if that’s a bad thing but anyway, it was quite a last minute planning. Was so happy that I got to receive all the items that I ordered just slightly more than a week ago!

So after cracking my head, I decided to try and make a pinata, just for the fun of it. Had initially wanted to bake a cake too but there simply wasn’t enough time. Sometimes I really wonder how did some of the mommies do it all, to manage the chores, and homework, and yet still can find time to accompany the kids.

Anyway, the night before the celebration, I stayed up late to make the pinata. Apparently there seems to be 2 ways to make a pinata, using either paper mache or cardboard. I chose the latter one which was an easier choice.

It’s not that difficult if your shape isn’t those irregular ones. It’s just time consuming as there’s a lot of taping (use paper tapes) and gluing.

milkandmilo_180543-1134x1134

After 6 hours of slow work (while watching movie on the TV), I am glad it’s done! And it looks like a pokeball!

milkandmilo_181036-1134x1134

And so we started our mini celebration with openings of goodie bags…

milkandmilo_181236-1134x1134

Followed by ‘smashing’ of the pinata… (which partly got took over by the adults)

milkandmilo_194251_1

That dropped off the small pokemons and tidbits, and made the 2 older kids go all crazy…

milkandmilo_082854-1134x1134

Then that’s it. No baking of cake so we bought a new cake from Bengawan solo. The pandan cheese roll flavour now made into a round cake, topped with pokemon figurines that I bought from Qoo10.

milkandmilo_182221-1134x1134

Click! Click! Click!

milkandmilo_182251-1134x1134

And hope these kids will grow up together and be as close as now.

milkandmilo_182340-1134x1134

The moment she’s waiting for…

milkandmilo_182409-1134x1134

That’s about it. A nice little celebration with the big family. I’ve always like the idea of such gatherings but of course it also depends greatly on the relationships. We are blessed to have that so treasure it if you have.

Time flies and my little milkie is already 6 years old with 3 baby teeth dropped. Hope she will continue to be as happy as now, and grow up healthily!

Happy 6th birthday! Love you always! 😘
